Here is a summary of the rule/policy changes for 2009:
  • Girls class has been expanded by splitting the 5 and 6 group to 5 and Under and 6 year old girls
  • In cases of 9 rider classes we will now be taking 7 riders to the main instead of 8
  • When moving from Challenge class to Junior or Junior to Elite during the season you now carry your series points forward. In the past your points were reset at zero. The points table will be adjusted so there is now separation between Junior and Elite points
  • For Series points Novice girls will now use the Intermediate points table. This reduces the points gap for girls moving up in class during the year.
  • Shin pads must cover the entire knee and shin to the top of the foot
  • Shorts must be made of tear resistant material as per the UCI rule
  • For classes with more than 8 riders (i.e. classes that have mains, semis, quarters, etc.) lane choice will now be awarded based on your moto and previous qualifier finishes. Tie break is based on countback starting from last moto. Qualifiers and mains with lane choice have the moto sheets printed in order of choice and riders choose their lanes in staging. For all classes with total points only (i.e. 8 riders or less) there are no changes.
  • Anti-doping to include zero tolerance for alcohol consumption by athletes
  • Jerseys can now be left untucked as long as they do not cause interference
  • Amendment to rain-out policy for the final weekend
    • In the event that the Grands are rained out, the race will be cancelled, it will still count as a qualifier, no refunds and we use the best 3 or 4 provincial races for year-end total. If the AB champs is rained out, it will be moved to the following Saturday at the same track.

The AGM was held this past weekend (October 17-18, 2009) and the schedules have been set for 2010. There were also many rule changes discussed and put forth to the Alberta Bicycle Association BMX committee for ratification. The races can be seen in the SCHEDULES section. There may be an indoor Provincial in 2010, but that is yet to be determined. If there is an indoor the Provincial Cup series qualifications will be your best 4 finishes + the Grands, otherwise it will remain your best 3 finishes + the Grands. The rule changes will be posted shortly following official approval. In addition 4 positions were up for election. All four were voted in by acclimation. The positions are:
    • President - Tim Croft
    • Secretary - Fran Jassman
    • Rider Rep - Shawn Loewen
    • Web Master/statistician - Darren Williams
