The Provincial District points have been completed for the year. You can check them out on the POINTS page. This tally includes all your local races plus any Provincial Cup races you attended (you can read more here). The top rider in each ability (Novice, Int, Expert, Cruiser both Male and Female) will receive an award at the first 2009 Provincial in St. Albert. The top 10 overall points riders will also receive an award at that same race. Congratulations! Thanks to Roddi Lega for calculating them all year. It is a big job.

There will be a change to the way Pro payouts are done at Provincial races in 2009. The new structure can be seen here pdf. In effect it favors being an Elite level rider over a Junior level rider. The old payout system favored whichever class had the higher number of riders for that particular event. The permanent link can be found in the RULES section

The 2008 Alberta BMX AGM is in the books. There are a few changes that have been voted in and a new executive elected. Here are the tidbits:

Jim Negenman has stepped down after 1 year of the President's 2 year term. Thanks to Jim for all his years of service. He is still active as the President of the CBA and as a CCA official. That left an opening for the remaining year of the term and Airdrie's Tim Croft was elected.
Another long standing member, Ron Nicol has declined any elected position this year and another thanks goes out to him for all his time and effort over the past few years. Your newly elected Vice-President is Red Deer's Glen Pratt.
Fran Duhaime was re-elected as the treasurer for a 2 year term to everyone's delight
Fran Jassman remains as secretary as she is going into her second year of a 2 year term
Your newly elected Rider Representative is Edmonton's Shawn Loewen on a 1 year term. All you riders; Shawn is the guy you want to talk to if you have any questions, concerns or ideas for Alberta BMX. He will bring those concerns to the executive.
DW remains the web guy for another year
Your new promotions man is Ross Vickery out of St. Albert for a 2 year term.
All the new executive can be contacted via email from our Executive page. The link can be found at the bottom of each page on our website.

Other big news is the change of the Provincial Cup Series format. In 2009 all Provincial weekends will be 2 race Provincial weekends, meaning that both Saturday and Sunday will be Provincial Cup Series races. You still only need 3 races plus the Grands to qualify for year end rankings and awards, so this new format allows you to get in your required races in less weekends and frees up more weekends in the summer for other races or other activities besides BMX if so inclined. In 2009 instead of 6 race weekends plus the Grands/Championships weekend there are only 3 weekends plus the Grands/Championships weekend.
The schedule is now set and you can see it on our SCHEDULES page. Congratulations to St. Albert, Okotoks, Red Deer, and Lethbridge on being awarded Provincials for 2009.

We can also welcome a new track into the family as Coalhurst, a small community just North of Lethbridge, has started up a track and will join the ABA group in 2009.

In 2008 a major hurdle for each Provincial was finding enough qualified volunteers to help run the races. There are a lot of people that have taken the CCA Commissaire course and we need you to step up and help out. Each Provincial you work gets you a free registration for that race. Come on people, without volunteers we cannot run our races and let's not force the same volunteers to work every Provincial; step up and help out.
