The Alberta BMX Annual General Meeting has concluded. There were several positions up for election and this is how the voting ended:
  • President - Jim Negenman by acclamation
  • Secretary - Fran Jassman by acclamation
  • Rider Rep - Mark Roberts
  • Webmaster - Darren Williams by acclamation
  • Casino Chair - Adonus Williams by acclamation
The other positions were 2 year terms and remained unchanged. Check the Executive page for the full list
Other notable news involved the awarding of the Provincial Cup races for 2008. The results follow. Note that the exact dates cannot be determined until other races (Western Nationals, UCI Events, etc) have been decided upon:
  • Morley Indoor - February/March
  • Okotoks - June
  • Stony Plain - July
  • Airdrie - July
  • Calgary - August
  • Lethbridge - August
  • Red Deer GRANDS - September
Morley indoor is a definite go, with November 4th the target opening date. The exact usage fees per club or rider have yet to be determined. Consensus is leaning towards one long day at the track (Sundays) rather than two shorter days (Saturday and Sunday) to help keep rental costs down. This could change depending on funding sources.
The future of BMX sanctioning in Canada will be up for review at a CCA meeting in December. Among things being discussed will be the options of bringing in the American Bicycle Association (ABA), the National Bicycle League (NBL) or resurrecting the Canadian BMX Association (CBA). The result of this meeting could bring significant changes to "national series" racing in Canada. Stay tuned...
